CREAN is a consulting organization dedicated to improving the position of our clients in the marketplace as well as provide technology and engineering solutions, specializing in Technical Subject Matter Expertise in Space, launch, missile, and aviation sectors. We are looking for a talented, highly motivated Systems engineer with Communications and Payload experience to join the development of the next generation of satellite payloads.

Responsibilities will include some of the following:

  • Developing architecture, design concepts, and technical baselines for one or more satellite Bus Subsystems (T&C, Power, Attitude Control, Propulsion, Harness, Environmental) and related hardware/software.
  • Developing Bus subsystem-level requirements and interface definitions and mass/power budgets.
  • Conducting Bus design trades, including potential source identification/selection through formal Requests for Information particularly for space systems which may also include deep space communications systems.
  • Perform analysis and decompose system level performance requirements to verifiable allocated subsystems/components requirement.
  • Creating technology maturation and risk reduction plans for critical satellite elements and satellite subsystems.
  • Supporting proposal development activities for satellite systems.
  • Support program design, development, manufacturing, assembly and test activities through spacecraft delivery.
  • Support component, subsystem, and spacecraft testing through spacecraft delivery including in-orbit testing and operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to develop and analyze technical requirements, perform trade studies, conduct major design reviews (e.g. PDR and CDR) and allocate functions down to subsystems and hardware/software.
  • Hardware components and system test experience in satellite systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and peers.
  • Ability to write technical sections of customer requests for information (RFIs) or proposals, including developing presentations to describe the technical approach in a clear manner.
  • Space-Ground-Terrestrial System level analysis capabilities to develop robust system budgets, waveforms, etc. potentially including deep space applications.
  • Proficiency in relevant analytical tools (e.g. QDF, DOORS, LabView, etc.)
  • A U.S. Government issued clearance is preferred, but not required.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with satellite design, build, integration, testing, and operation.
  • Experience developing System Block Diagrams and documenting Analog/Digital interfaces.
  • End-to-end systems engineering and architecture development including space segment; space-to-ground communications, command & control; and terrestrial communications systems.
  • Proven ability to develop analytical modeling and simulation tools/environments.
  • Experience in requirements flow-down (e.g. MBSE, DOORS), Configuration Management, Failure Review Boards/Root Cause processes, etc.
  • Prior satellite system engineering experience, 5-20 years.

Education:

  • Bachelor Science degree required; Electrical or Mechanical Systems Engineering or Aerospace preferred.
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred, but not required.

  • This is an independent contractor role, categorized as a 1099 employee. An independent contractor provides his or her services to CREAN, Inc. on a project to project basis.
